How to Create Your Own Kate Middleton Style

With so much focus on the newest Duchess of the Royal family across the pond, British and global eyes have been swayed from Kate and concentrated on Meghan Markle over the last year or so. With a new Royal bride in town on the arm of the Duke, Prince Harry and attracting attention from every angle, thanks to everything from her personality likenesses to Princess Diana to her dress code, Kate has been somewhat pushed out of the spotlight.

However, when it comes to Royal news and all things hot from London, Kate still manages to remain one of the most stylish in the famous extended family and, we think, still deserves a look in!

Always loved a little bit of the Duchess of Cambridge’s style since you saw her wed her prince at Westminster Abbey back in 2011? Keep scrolling because today we put her back in the spotlight and pick out some of her most recent style successes that are easy to recreate yourself.

Married to Prince William and mother to Prince George, Prince Louis, and Princess Charlotte, and sister to Pippa, Kate, also known as Catherine has settled into life as a Duchess of England at her home in Kensington Palace with what looks like complete ease. Not only does she come across as polite, polished and naturally beautiful, but her kindness shines through in her charity work. With a focus on children and providing them with the best starts in life, her recent work is all about mental health and working to create stable and happy futures.

Alongside her family and her Royal work, Kate has been noted in the style sections of many a publication, not forgetting her British Vogue cover June of last year.

A style without edge, Kate might not be in the lead when it comes to shock factor or street style inspo. However, whether she’s on Royal tour, attending Wimbledon or heading to a church service at St George’s Chapel, every outfit is put together perfectly for the occasion.

Over the last year or so, Kate’s style has seen a slight evolution. Staying away from too many coat dress and pointed pump co-ords and instead opting for trouser looks and designer/high street combinations that show off a little more of her personal style.

With a serious penchant for Alexander McQueen and Jenny Packham next to Erdem and high street labels like LK Bennett and Zara, Kate’s style is actually more diverse than you might think, with the ability (and lots of help from stylists we imagine!!) to select pieces from a wide collection of designers and labels that still converge to create cohesive looks that truly look like her.

So, today, let’s take a look at some of her most signature looks and recreate them, shall we!?

If you love the Royal look and fancy piecing it together for yourself then you’re in the right place!

ANYWAY – Let’s get back to it. From maternity to those red-carpet beauties, let’s dive into the Princess’ style and take what Kate wore and find something just as perfect!

Kate’s Casual Style

Kate’s casual style hasn’t changed too much over the years. Although getting ever so slightly chicer and better put together, Kate loves skinny jeans and always has, paired neatly with a simple, striped top or Brora knit, a tailored blazer (preferably tweed) and finished with either a classic flat pump or a knee-high boot (preferably by Chloé), depending on the time of year.

Whether she's collecting the little ones from Primary School (does she do that!?) or heading on a casual day out in Paris, ultimate English country-girl vibes are what Kate’s casual style is all about. And she’s not afraid of a sneaker either!

Wedding Guest Looks

Kate does wedding guest looks pretty much to Royal perfection.

If you spot a style error then please let us know because we don’t!

From Princess Eugenie's recent wedding to the Meghan & Harry wedding itself,Kate couldn’t look more like a Princess than she does when she’s rocking a Catherine Walker coat dress (or this beaut red one from Commonwealth day, this year) often with a perfectly coordinating Jane Taylor headpiece to complete the look. If you’re looking for Kate Middleton style inspo for your next wedding or special occasion think chic and structured coat dresses, tailored long sleeve dresses or dress and jacket combos with a little bit of print.

If you’re going for just a dress, think simple detailing (or a chic print – THAT Prada dress or pink Kate Spade number) and always, always match your shoes and a headpiece to finish your look with Kate-inspired finesse!

Ready for Business

Business for Kate is all about finding just the right midi dresses. From Jenny Packham short dresses to long sleeved, simple designs from the likes of Emilia Wickstead or Dolce & Gabbana dresses for work events or days doing more formal Royal tour trips are generally knee-length, A-line and neat and structured up top – obviously with a modest neckline.

Often completing a look with a Mulberry coat in the chilly English weather, coordinating is key when it comes to nailing Kate’s style.

Where bright, primary hues were once on the cards for anyone in the Royal set, Kate now tends to opt for muted tones, neutrals or pastels, having been recently snapped in anything from soft lilac to olive green.

Here are some of our favorite workwear dress picks on Shop It To Me which absolutely nail the tone of Kate’s style and would work perfectly for any work venue, Duchess of England or not!

Best Maternity Outfits

When Kate was on maternity leave with her first, second and third child, she could well have been one of the most watched women on the planet. That was until Meghan came along and did the same thing!

Through three pregnancies, the Duchess has been on the radar with her simple, classic and polished maternity style – undeniably chic outfits from start to finish.

Getting ready to plan your own maternity style? Think floaty empire waistlines in simple palettes or with classic prints (Kate loves a polka dot dress), longline flattering coats and jackets and longer sleeve dresses that help to keep any look polished.

Here are some Princess-inspired picks that we approve of! And they’re all from Shop It To Me!

Kate On the Red Carpet

We couldn’t finish this blog without a quick look at Kate’s red-carpet style. Whether she’s on route to the BAFTAs or heading to an important charity event, Kate is all about a flowing, voluminous evening dress, eternally chic and with a touch of delicate embellishment detailing.

One of her latest trips out saw her in a beautiful Alexander McQueen gown with short sleeves and a tiered skirt and was one of our favorite Kate Middleton looks of all time!

When it comes to the red carpet, Kate doesn’t always do a sleeve either. From asymmetric one-shoulder styles to chiffon scooped necklines, Gucci to Sportmax, this seems like a place that allows the Duchess to relax a little and experiment with a bit more shape.

These flowing beauties get our Kate-inspired seal of approval if you’re heading anywhere special this year.

Whatever you think of the Royals and Buckingham Palace, there’s something about checking out the Princess’ and Duchess’ style that none of us can resist. Is it an anticipation of them doing something directional or unexpected? Or is it just the most perfect inspiration to be our most classy selves? Whatever the reason, we just LOVE to browse both Meghan and Kate’s styles and we have to say, our wardrobes would not be upset if some of these gorgeous key pieces made their way home and into our closets!
