Biggest Fall/Winter 2020 Trends

Hottest Fashion Trends for The Season

When we create our seasonal trend guides for you for autumn and winter, we’re usually in the holiday spirit, preparing for a season of parties and family gatherings. Well, as we all know, this is year is different in so many ways.

Trends might seem like a very unimportant part of shopping at the moment. But you know what, we still all deserve to look and feel our best, right? So, whether you’re doing holiday season small or even virtual this year, add a couple of these trends to your closet if you feel like giving your look an on-season update.

These fall/winter 2020 trends are our faves.

Cardigan Club

Fancy joining the club? It’s probably the most comfortable one you will ever find. And it’s all about cozy cardigans.

This season, the cardigan has seen a serious comeback. And we’re not mad about it. All styles of cardigans are good. So, think cropped and cute or oversized and chunky – they’re all on-trend this winter.

When it comes to color, a bright statement is always fun but if you want to stay effortlessly chic, stick to neutrals that work with everything. Style yours with everything from your loungewear to tailored leather pants and heels.

Fitted cardigans pair up with anything from jeans to miniskirts.

Oversized is the cozy way to do it!

Nail the cardigan look with a three-piece knitted set complete with cardigan, crop top and matching skirt or pants. This one from ALC is a loungewear dream.

Balloon Sleeves

The bigger the better. And we’re talking about sleeves – of course. For winter 2020, the balloon season is one of the biggest silhouettes and it’s also one of our personal faves. Balloon sleeve tops are the perfect way to dress up denim or leather pants for festive drinks or if you’re meeting on Zoom only, it’s a great way to make sure your shoulders are dolled up. Plus, you can keep your slippers on and out of sight!

Think silk, lace, taffeta and all shiny and luxe fabrics. Color is a bonus but remember that black is always super chic.

Leopard will never lead you wrong.

Black is eternally chic. Pair this with any pair of jeans for the ultimate evening look.

Choose Your Leather

Leather is always big for fall. But this season, it’s no joke. Add some leather look leggings to your closet if you haven’t already and style them with anything from a tee or hoodie to a silky camisole. Or opt for a tailored blazer or wide-leg trousers for a real Matrix vibe with a 2020 twist.

A leather blazer is one of the biggest key looks for this season. But it’s an expensive item to invest in. Luckily, We Wore What has created a vegan leather blazer that does the job for a much more affordable price!

Leather leggings are a classic wardrobe staple that will always serve you well.

Or – opt for an on-trend wide leg style for extra credit.

Get in Check

Checks are arguably the biggest print for the season ahead. In fact, we created a whole blog just about checks that you can find right here!

All the Gold

Gold and shimmer and all that glimmers. Gold is always a great call for this time of year, and if you want to update your wardrobe with something particularly fun, this is your zone. It was very popular on the runways for fall/winter 2020 and it comes in many forms. All great.

From metallic fabric and exotic fringing to beadwork and sequins, if you’re doing a gold look, make sure you go all out. Because, why not!?

Keep it super simple – but effective with a chic cami.

A little knit.

Gold and fringe?

Go for a dress that you can only get away with this time of year.

The Chunkiest Boots of All

If you’re considering investing in a new pair of boots this season, chunky is the only way to go. Thanks to Prada, everyone from London to New York has become obsessed with super chunky black boots this year and we’re not surprised. Not only are they super comfy and durable (we expect them to last for at least a decade) but they’re also super flattering and more versatile than you would initially think.

While they style perfectly with black denim or skinny leather pants, you can also style them up with mini or midi skirts or even chic long dresses. They add instant edge to any look and they’ll be sticking around next year so don’t see them as too much of a “trend” piece.

The boots that kicked off the trend…

But we’ve found some more affordable and just as good alternatives.

Red Red Red

If we had to make a call on one key color this season, it would be red. And we’re talking RED. Go bold and bright and make it a head-to-toe look to really nail it. Add matching accessories, nails and lips and you’ve got instant max glam. Obsessed.

The perfect holiday dress?

Even your casual knitwear should be red.

Knitted Everything

Last, but certainly not least, we’re including all things knitted in our trend round-up. Whether you’re doing polo tops, skirts, loungewear or sweater dresses, knitwear is HUGE and you really can’t go wrong. Choose luxe fabrics and sleek fits and layer up the knits, styled with the chunkiest black boots you can find.

Super sleek.

Or luxe and simple.

So chic with long boots <3

While life might be pretty weird right now for everyone (to say the least!), fashion is always our way of keeping our spirits up. We might be dressing up for ourselves this year, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t still dress up and enjoy it. Right?
