2020's Oversized Handbag Trend

Pillowy, metallic, logo ridden, fringed, butter smooth leather, shiny patent, and even straw— big bags are making a comeback this Spring/Summer season.

Creeping their way back into 2020 like they never left, oversized handbags are showing up on the runways, on Instagram, and on the real roads— a la street style.

Maybe it's one of Dior's newest book bag totes . . . .

While we don't know for sure what exact bag first set off our radar, one thing's for certain, we're drawn to these big bags.

Just when we'd finally gotten the hang of the mini bag trend, and learned how to expertly cram all of our crap into its tiny chambers, the oversized handbag trend is back to haunt us.

Are we ready to go back to our old ways? Are we ready to literally and figuratively carry the burden of the big bag over our shoulders so soon?

For the sake of fashion, our answer is yes. And, it's not to say that the micro bag trend is totally in the rearview mirror, but right now, fashion is definitely focusing on something fuller.

These are the best oversized handbags for Spring/Summer 2020 and how to style them:

MM6 Maison Margiela

Coming in 4 other colors, Maison Margiela's sleek Japanese hobo is giving you options.

How to Style: wear with black leggings or biker shorts, to the gym or while running errands, this tote adds an air of sophistication and fun to your daytime look.

Another casual statement bag, Off-White's commercial Ikea-inspired tote is definitely specific. Hate it or love it, it comes in many other fun colors and has a multitude of uses.

How to Style: wear to the gym or use as your laundry bag, beach bag, picnic bag, or carry your kid's stuff in it. This bag makes us happy.

Rosie Assoulin

We're big fans of Rosie Assoulin's oversized straw handbag. It reads luxury, sophistication, class, and has a chicer-than-you vibe that a straw bag usually does not possess.

How to Style: wear with a sundress, go to The Hamptons, this is definitely a posh resort wear bag that deserves to be carried with class and to be shown off.

Jacquemus's oversized beach bag is quite possibly the best beach bag of 2020. Jacquemus is still an IT designer in 2020, and everything he touches turns either super small or oddly oversized. OF COURSE, there's the fabulous in-between that is the rest of his entirely chic collection.

How to Style: we're wearing this bad boy to the beach. Literally plopping it down in the sand and enjoying the warm weather.

Btw, we found this Jacquemus big beach bag, and every other bag on this 2020 bag trends list, via the Shop It To Me App.

Prada's royal blue canvas tote comes with a matching logo baby tote inside, and a long detachable shoulder strap in case you're interested. Not sure that we'd want to wear an oversized tote crossbody style, but never say never.

How to Style: a blue bag and blue denim sounds like a good idea. Wear this blue Prada tote with jean shorts, a tee, and flat strappy sandals.

Cult Gaia

Anything with a bamboo handle automatically seems tropical and sophisticated. Cult Gaia's take on the oversized bag trend is fashion forward, and this bag is elegant enough to be worn at night.

How to Style: wear this bamboo and raffia tote with a designer maxi dress.

Marc Jacobs

This bag is so fun! If you need a little pep in your step during your morning commute, this bag is it.

How to Style: we suggest wearing this big tote bag to work, with a black work suit or any other attire. It's chic to see baby pink paired elegantly against an all black ensemble.

Stella McCartney

If you're looking for (or need) something more serious for the office, Stella McCartney's faux leather tote bag is your answer.

How to Style: wear this to the office with absolutely anything.

Golden Goose

Besides making your favorite funky sneakers, Golden Goose also designs clothing and handbags. This 100% cotton tote is perfect for when you're feeling rebellious.

How to Style: wear this oversized tote as part of a model off-duty street style vibe. Go for a monochromatic black or white ensemble, and add sneakers. Sign-up for free for Shop It To Me to snag Golden Goose sneakers on sale!

Utilitarian but make it chic. Nanushka's oversized shell tote is giving us all sorts of vibes, from military to minimalist.

How to Style: we'd pair this large Nanushka bag with a dark denim dress and sandals.

One more from Nanushka

Finally on our top oversized handbag trends of 2020 list, is Nanushka's massive tote. With a crocodile embossed yellow shell, this oversized tote bag is definitely going to get you noticed.

How to Style: where ever you go, this Nanushka bag will definitely make an impact and be the topic of conversation. That said, it doesn't matter what you're wearing, it's all about the bag here.

Yes, we're still referring to the big bag.

After accepting the mini and micro bags of recent years passed, it's hard to now get on board with the big bag trend. Or is it?

Are you in on this oversized trend yet? Hopefully you haven't sold off all of your jumbo bags, because what's old is new again. Not that the jumbo bag died on us completely, we just forgot about it for a while.
