Suddenly, basics have never been more important to us.
We’re spending more time at home than ever before and the joys of comfortable clothes that can mix and match have never been more apparent.
For us, we’re loving basics. Basics that will never go out of style so are never a wasted investment.
We want wardrobe basics that can mix and match with anything else in our wardrobe.
We want wardrobe basics that are comfortable and easy to wash.
And most importantly…
We want wardrobe basics that we can still wear and enjoy when everything is back to normal and we’re living our usual day-to-day lives. Ish.
So – here are the best basics that we all need right now.
The Perfect Joggers
The perfect joggers, you say? Yes, we know, they’re hard to find.
If you’ve never really paid much thought to how your joggers make you feel – have a think now. Are you the type to wear skin-tight joggers that are more like leggings? Or do you wear oversized ‘boyfriend’ joggers that you really wouldn’t want to wear out of the house?
Well, the perfect jogger meets these ideas in the middle.
For us, the perfect jogger is quite high-waisted, perfect to wear with shorter tops or tuck in a tee. They’re loose but slim-fit at the same time. And they are made in a quality fabric that isn’t going to bobble after three washes.
Looking for a lot, right?
Well, guys, UGG came through this season.
These UGG joggers tick all our boxes and more. They’re not super cheap but they’re under $90. And for that, you get this super-soft and just the right amount of weight double-knit fleece fabric. Feels like a cozy dream and keeps its shape so you don’t get those awkward baggy knees that many joggers bring with them.
Plus, we love the marl-style grey palette which makes them look slightly more stylish and less sporty than regular grey joggers but keeps the look soft and neutral as an alternative to black.
‘90s Racer Tanks
This classic basic is having a moment right now. Thanks to the likes of Bella Hadid, who LOVES ‘90s style, racer tank tops are one of our best basics at the moment. And they’ll never go out of style.
Classic colors are always white and black when it comes to racer tank tops. But right now, we’re spotting some seriously cool color palettes that are pastel-y and super delish.
The shape of this black racer tank from Theory is perfection.
There’s only one size left in this supremely popular tank from Topshop!
Are we the only ones who are obsessing over tie-dye?
A Breton stripe top is always high on our basics list. Adding a stripe to your casual outfit adds instant style points and makes a change from a simple white tee.
Plus, Breton tops look so good with jeans or linen pants that it will become a regular in your everyday wardrobe rotation once this time has passed and we’re all back to normal!
Chinti and Parker do some cute Breton tops with subtle branding.
Or go uber French with Cinq a Sept.
Whether you’re wearing this loosely over sweats or paired with a crop top and high-waist denim shorts, a buffalo flannel shirt is officially counted as a basic. Because we all need one in our lives.
This style shirt is super versatile and so comfortable. Plus, you can wear it in a multitude of ways which make it perfect for all seasons, any time of year.
Style Tip – Size up a couple of sizes for an on-trend, slouchy take on the look.
Another ‘90s throwback.
Button-up cardigans are back with a bang and they never looked so good!
This style cardigan might be designed to wear with jeans or little shorts for the summer but actually, they’re a great basic to jazz up a joggers and sneakers look too. More feminine and on-trend than a classic hoodie, add a colorful button-up cardigan to your casual spring look for a girly take on laidback style.
Super sweet pink from LOFT works perfectly.
Lettuce green is a dream from Autumn Cashmere.
Or go distressed with Kendall + Kylie.
Lastly, a must in everyone’s basic wardrobe, you need a good oversized hoodie.
Perfect to pair with sweats or leggings but also easy to style up with a satin midi skirt and a leather jacket, an oversized, chunky hoodie is the perfect way to stay comfortable will maintaining your style.
Keep it simple with H&M.
Or go for a wool blend and luxe with Ganni.
On-trend, cozy and cool? Yes, we’re still talking about socks here.
Sports socks have taken over as a must-have accessory – all thanks to lockdown. And this is an easy trend to get on board with because we need a cozy pair of socks or two!
Wear with your go-to comfy joggers or full sweats or opt for a Hailey Beiber-inspired style with bike shorts and an oversized sweater or flannel shirt.
Here, the goal is chunky and sporty. Worn pulled up over the ankle – just add sneakers or slippers depending on what you’re up to!
If we could only have three pieces of jewelry in our collection as our everyday ‘basic’ picks. These would be them.
You could wear these with sweats for a day on the sofa. Or you could wear them with your favorite maxi dress to a summer event. Basic jewelry is versatile and it NEVER goes out of style.
A pair of chunky gold hoops always works.
A medallion or coin necklace can be dressed up or down so easily.
Chunky stacking rings work with casual and dressy outfits like a dream.
Basics are so underrated.
They should actually be at the top of our agendas and spending more and more time at home has made so many of us see this.
We rely on basics to piece together contemporary and versatile outfits. So, why don’t we usually give them much attention?
That all ends here.
