Shorts aren’t just for barbecues and running errands. They can also be a great option for everyday wear and even going out at night. Don’t know where to start? Take some tips from our Trendsetter Hot Robot. A resident of Hawaii, she is no stranger to styling shorts for all occassions. Here she lends some welcome outfit inspiration.

By winter’s end, most of us are dying for the warmth of spring and summer. When summer arrives, temperatures climb, sweat glands go crazy, and the need for those winter layers are a distant memory. What better time to replace those jeans and leggings with shorts?

I know some may be weary of shorts, just hear me out for a sec. There is a huge variety of styles of shorts to choose from; perhaps shorts vary just as much or even more than their long pants counterparts. You can find yourself some hot shorts or bermudas, and every inseam length in between; made out of everything from leather to denim. With that being said, your shorts can take you from cruising on the beach to a night out with friends. My denim shorts are a major summer staple, and really have taken me from beach barbecues to dinner and dancing with girlfriends.

For day, I regularly pair my shorts with a loose tank, flats or flip-flops, and a hat. Being from Hawaii, I often substitute a bra with a bikini top. It adds a pop of color and print, and is much more sweat friendly than a normal underwire bra in the heat. If a swimsuit top isn’t an option, simply layer with a cami or a pretty lace bralet. Another tip to beating the heat lies in the fabrics we wear. It’s key to pick fabrics that breathe; 100% cotton, linen, and 100% silk can help keep you cool in the heat.

At night, jazz up the same denim shorts with heels, add opulence with sequins and a mish-mash of eye-catching rings. Another option for night could be more accessory based; pair your shorts with a simple white shirt or tank and your boldest statement necklace. Get creative; just think of shorts as you would a mini skirt.
