How Many Pairs of Shoes Do You Own?

When Mademoiselle Robot guest blogged for us recently, I was stunned when I read she only had 5 pairs of shoes. Turns out I misread, and she wrote that she has 5 pairs of sandals. That’s more like it!

I always wonder what’s “normal” when it comes to shoes. In my own closet, every new dress and change in weather seems to necessitate a new purchase. I try to donate old clothing regularly, but there are so many pairs I just can’t bring myself to part with. Some are the only ones that match a particular outfit. Others are too painful to wear but are too cute (or too expensive) to give up.

When I saw the shoe photo in Tamra’s color-coded closet post earlier in the week, the question came to mind – what’s the appropriate number of shoes to own? Is there a limit, or can you never have too many?  How many pairs of shoes do you have in your closet?

My stats: I own 34 pairs, wear 8 – 10 regularly, and 14 almost never. As it turns out, I wear around 20 percent of my shoes 80 percent of the time. Is there anything the 80-20 rule doesn’t apply to?
