It's never as simple as a summer wedding because you can't just opt for a strappy summer dress. For a winter wedding this season, here are my fave ideas...
How much does this Halston Heritage dress remind you of that Carrie Bradshaw wedding outfit? (when she makes a speech and Big takes a phone call - you remember the one!)
Florals work just as well for winter but try a deeper, richer palette, which makes it more seasonally appropriate. This David Meister print is stunning and I love the pencil skirt with tiered frill hemline.
This works perfectly with the barely-there strappy heels in black that the model's wearing and why not add some drama with a veiled headpiece!?
I love prints to a wedding in general, but this Veronica Beard seems like it was made for a winter wedding.
The hemline is stunning and this monochrome palette to me was shouting out for a little splash of colour so I paired red with this grey, which is one of my fave combos.
I definitely think a jumpsuit has a place at a winter wedding but these would be my style rules:
- Keep shape interesting, not too simple or you border on it not being dressy enough
- Choose luxe fabrics, like satin or lace
- Opt for strapless or super-chic necklines, rather than anything too "ordinary"
- Always always always pair it with heels.
From left to right:
- I'm obsessed with this flounce jumpsuit from Halston Heritage. The fabric keeps it really dressy and it makes black suddenly wow.
- It's all about the neckline for this red Rachel Comey, I mean, look at it.
- Tibi keeps it simple but adds just enough detail to look super dressy at the hem.
- Deep florals again make this Milly jumpsuit perfect for a wedding and I love the plunging neckline because it's still super elegant.
I don't love throwing on a coat or jacket with a beaut dress just to stay warm at a wedding. I would 100% rather be a little chilly when outdoors and drape a pashmina over my shoulders, which done right is effortlessly chic.
You'll keep one of these for your entire life so invest well and DRY CLEAN ONLY!
The one time you can go for black
Usually, I wouldn't really opt for black for a wedding unless it was very formal and I'd cleared it with the bride first. However, for winter weddings, I think black suddenly becomes really appropriate and super-chic.
If I was choosing black I'd go for something like this gorgeous Theory dress with soft draping accents and semi-sheer details to really soften the look and keep it far away from anything office-like. I also love the asymmetric neckline on this dress.
