Don't Call Me Basic
Basic can be seen as a negative term, but basics literally rule my wardrobe and I wouldn't have it any other way. Here's a couple of not-so-basic basics that I currently have my eye on...
You should always include some basic, striped tailoring too. This blazer is so on-trend right now, yes, but actually it's also just a really key staple so a great investment piece. Also - I love these striped See By Chloé trousers. The shape is perfection.
Basic Shoes
To style with anything from skinny jeans, a micro mini skirt and a maxi dress, I truly believe you just need a pair of neutral flat mules and a pair of heeled mules. Yes, of course I want 5000 other pairs of shoes but these could see me through for quite some time and there's nothing boring about either of these "basics".
Jackets
True basic jackets we all need: 1 - black leather biker. 2 - Light-wash denim.
Here is where I always invest in higher quality jackets because I get so much wear out of these styles. I love this classic biker and this A Wang long line denim is such a key piece.
Jeans
Obviously, any basic wardrobe has to include the perfect pair of jeans. I'm currently into only light-wash and loose-fit, so these are the 3 I currently have lingering in my shopping cart.
Basic Jewels
Statement jewellery is nice, of course. However, the majority of my jewellery collection consists of basic or staple pieces in gold and silver. Any of these picks would elevate any outfit, which is exactly what a basic item should do.
Don't mistake basic for key.
These key pieces can make up the backbone of a wardrobe, beautifully pairing with each other and with bolder, statement pieces.
Stripes
Stripes are eternally stylish and should always be considered a basic or staple, in my eyes. I love simple tops, that could be styled with anything from denim to leather. Basics with an elevated edge is my jam.
