5 Trends I Can't Believe Came Back This Summer

BUT I'M GLAD THEY DID!!

KITTEN HEELS

I've said it before and I'll say it again, kitten heels were one of my most shocking returns to the fashion world this summer.

I started off life hating them. When they got "trendy" again, I hated them even more. And now... they're growing on me! I'm yet to invest in a pair myself, but I've been thinking about it and I would be choosing something along the lines of my below picks. Simplicity and classic colours, like black or red, work best for me, personally.

Kitten heels have always been a bit of a 50's/childish vibe, but somehow now the look is chicer than ever. They pair perfectly with a looser fit bottom, so either straight-fit jeans or cigarette-style trousers. And let's be honest, they're a hell of a lot more comfortable than sky-high stilettos!

Tabitha Simmons is basically making kitten heeled boots the must-have item for autumn with these bad boys. I have to say, I love them.

BIKE/CYCLING SHORTS

I can't actually believe that this happened as a trend you know. I still think it's one of the wackiest looks of this year and it just goes to show what can happen with the power of celebs and social media.

So, until recently, you wouldn't have seen a pair of tight, long-leg cycling shorts anywhere other than a cheesy, 80's work-out video. Am I right!?

However, and we can all debate where the trend came from initially, ever since we all caught sight of Kim Kardashian West rocking the new Yeezy line and wearing bike shorts at every possible occasion, I guess it caught on.

From the Hadids to Emily Ratajkowski, if you get papped, you've been spotted in a pair of these unforgiving bad boys.

It's not for me, but I will admit, there are plenty of ladies out there rocking this look and looking pretty damn good doing it.

STRAW BAGS

Now, this is a super cute one and I'm really glad it came back around. I've personally got myself a few of these and they will be my go-to summer bags for years to come, I'm sure.

Straw bags remind me of my nana and I don't believe you if you don't say the same thing. They are SO cute, twee and ultra-girly, which is a combination of words that I would never use to describe a handbag I was looking for and yet, I love them!

Whether you opted for a cool, chic clutch style or really went for it with a woven straw tote, this is a comeback trend that I can get on board with!

My fave celebs spotted with a straw bag this summer were Olivia Palermo (obvs and with many different styles, I must add!), Alexa Chung (style maven pro and she even did a Chanel box version!) and even SJP. Not to mention all million fashion bloggers on Insta.

EXTREME MINI SUNGLASSES

We saw them on the catwalk for Prada, Louis Vuitton and Rochas, amongst many others, and from then we all had an inkling that this would be a huge trend this summer. Little did I know actually how much it would take off and how stupid I would feel in my classic Ray Ban Wayfarers.

I, however, chose to stick with my bigger frames and not jump on this bandwagon - no judgement, just personal taste!

The look means extreme, teeny tiny cat eye frames, that, let's be totally honest here, do not block any sun what so ever, require you to wear them halfway down your nose, which is really annoying and, to be fair, only really look that good in photos at just the right angle. HOWEVER, having said that, they are ultra-popular and it has to be said there is something very cool-girl about them if you decide to rock them.

My personal opinion - If you're gonna do this look, go full Matrix and rock the Pradas.

FANNY PACKS & MEDALLIONS / BELT BAGS & COIN NECKLACES

With new names, did the design elite think we wouldn't notice these trend comebacks!? Well, we did and they were a HUGE hit! I've pieced them together because I've noticed that when it comes to the fash pack in London, one comes directly with the other. If you're rocking a belt bag, I'll put money on you having a gold medallion necklace too.

I am obsessed with gold jewellery and I've always loved medallion/coin styles ever since my dad gave me his old one when I was about 15 from the 70's and I just thought it was the coolest thing ever. So, to see loads of these come into the shops this summer made me super happy. Plus, there really are great options for low prices, which means you can have a really nice collection of different ones to interchange or rock the layered look easily, without breaking the bank.

Fanny pack/belt bags still make me giggle. I think today's styles are chic, cool and give fanny packs a great name again, but there's something about them that reminds me of Will Smith in The Fresh Prince and it's hard to get away from!! :)
Today, the look can be paired with bike shorts and a tee (totes 90's) BUT you can also now rock these in chic black with a dress or even over a classic plaid blazer, which elevates the bag and leaves our hands free for coffee and muffins! Yay!
