Some people stay away from maxis as they think they're for vacay only. I totally disagree and if, like me, you're a huge fan of comfy + cool = YAY, then there are several different ways to get more wear from a beloved floral floor-sweeper.
I'd keep all accessories really light, so I love these lace-up wedges, which could also be worn with denim so easily. Straw bags are HUGE right now and this boxy one is just a dream. Finished with this RL straw hat and this look is prim and polished for a hot day out.
I love to toughen up floral pieces and maxis are perfect to pair with leather. This Theory biker jacket is unreal and imagining throwing it over this dress is making me happy. I'd actually layer this long-sleeve shirt under the maxi too. Add a chic tassel waist belt to continue the black theme and finish with these cool AF booties from Michael Kors. Damn, that's a good look.
Without realising it I had been sitting all my maxi dresses in a "dress" category in my wardrobe, but actually unbutton it all the way up to the navel and layer over jeans and the look is insane. You could equally unbutton the top half so it's only fastened at the waist and have this little lace cami peeping through. Balance the black with heeled black mules and you're done. I would SO wear this.
I just love creating new ways to wear a piece that I once thought was one dimensional.
Starting with the maxi itself...
I'm really into the palette of this BCBG dress because it's floral but somehow feels neutral, meaning easy to style into different looks. It buttons from top to bottom, which also makes it versatile for styling and the sleeves can be left either elbow length or rolled up.
