Where did the flare jeans trend come from?

Most of us think of the 1970s when we think of flare jeans, or as they were called in that decade, “bell bottoms.” But the flare actually made its first appearance much earlier in the wide leg tailoring of sailors’ pants. Ahoy!

Will flares work for my body type?

Thanks to the resurgence of the flared trend, designers have come up with many variations on the jean or trouser cut to ensure that you can find something that suits you. High waisted flare jeans are particularly popular, as are jeans that start skinny and end in a super flare, or have a gradual wide leg.

Where should I flare?

Flare anywhere! Try out a faded and distressed flared denim jean for weekend or festival wear. A dark wash high waisted flare or trouser flare pairs nicely with a blouse and heels for a casual Friday look. Flared legs, with the right top, accessories and shoes can take you just about anywhere.

Are flared jeans here to stay?

We think that the flared jeans look is approaching timeless. After a brief disappearance in the 1980s, the flared look made a comeback. And in spite of the popularity of skinny jeans, it’s maintained its classic status.

The verdict?

Flares deserve a place in every closet. No matter your size, shape or style, there is a flare jean out there for you. Front pocket flares, denim with some stretch, black flare jeans, cropped flares, you name it . . .
