Off Duty Style
Have you heard the term ‘model off duty’? This look is everything right now. Casual, sexy, oversized, fitted, literally all of the best fits wrapped up into one street chic ensemble.
The name basically explains itself, this is an outfit typically seen on models walking the NYC streets, running from casting to casting, or just shopping in SoHo on their days off. This look doesn’t require the heavy hair and makeup normally plastered on models for photo shoots. It is more of an easy breezy vibe.
To achieve this look wear little to no makeup, only a lip gloss is necessary and maybe some bb cream. Wear your natural hair, either down or in a tight slicked back ponytail or bun. And of course, now to the fashion part: think simple, no fuss, relaxed, and slightly refined.
So what does a model wear on her days off? Denim. Right now the hottest denim seen on NYC streets are boyfriend jeans and skinny styles. Here is some denim inspiration:
For skinny jeans, models love black, and it’s easy. Practically every denim designer includes a pair of black skinny jeans into their collection, so the choice is yours. We love these Frame skinny jeans.
When it comes to boyfriend jeans, AG Adriano Goldschmied has this look mastered. Because Summer is (slowly) approaching, think in terms of lighter denim. Go for a pair like these AG slim boyfriend jeans.
No Heels Necessary
Sneakers are a natural choice for models running around town. Ballerina flats are also a big part of models’ wardrobes. Keep your flats on the simple side, they should not be your stand out piece. If you need that edgy factor, go for these RED Valentino studded flower strap flats, these are very NYC.
Now, your favorite celebs (ahem, Kim K?) may be wearing those crazy chunky Balenciaga and LV athletic sneakers, but these styles will only be in for 1 year max. If you have over 1k to blow per pair of these clunkers, by all means please splurge and make that killer fashion statement. But for the most of us, a streamlined sneaker will work just fine.
Converse sneakers are always a good go-to. These Chuck Taylors go with everything and anything, and they are the epitome of effortless coolness.
For the top half of your look, go for a more relaxed version of a tee, sweater, or jacket. Oversized is the vibe here.
Don’t let an all black ensemble scare you. Pair the Frame Denim and RED Valentino flats, noted earlier, with this Vince oversized tee (tuck the front part of the tee ever so slightly into your jeans).
Voilà your outfit is hip, relaxed, and very model-esque. This look is basically every model’s uniform, and it’s easy to know why.
To complete this model-off-duty look, you will need the perfect sunglasses and an essential classic bag.
Black sunglasses are a must, and they look the best in either round or aviator styles. If you haven’t yet tried the round sunglass trend, you must! Trust us, you’ll be hooked. They will remain a chic staple, throughout every season, and they look surprisingly good on every shape face.
Your sunglasses can also be a neutral tone like a tan, olive, silver, etc. The key here is to have taste and think classic elegance. If you find a pair of sunnies that can go across the board and match many outfits, which is always the goal, get them.
Purse time! Nothing overwhelming, and nothing too tiny.
Oh, and BACKPACKS are a definite yes with this look. Models always carry the chicest backpacks. You can either wear them traditionally on your back, worn across only one shoulder, or if your bag is of the smaller kind, you can carry it by its top handle. Check out these beauties.
Backpacks are so seriously chic, and normally we bypass them when shopping for handbags, but honestly a backpack is an it-girl item.
Now try Googling “model-off-duty style” and tell us you can’t pull it off.
;P This is a look for EVERYONE, there is not one woman who won’t look extremely sexy and effortless wearing this “uniform”.
