*Everyone wants to look good, even on the slopes. But you have to remember to stay warm too! The torontoShopoholic has put together a list of things you need and what to remember when you are packing for a ski vacation. Remember to check out their blog for all sorts of Toronto shopping info! *
If you are off to a winter wonderland this winter to carve up the mountain, be prepared to pack a lot of clothes. Skiing is all about layering so that you can get the right amount of protection against the elements. Plus you will need clothing for après ski and all your gear!
Dressing for the elements:
When you are out swooshing through powder you are going to need multiple layers to battle the cold. Start with some long underwear and ski socks (wool blend for warmth without the itch) and finish off with a great down jacket. Make sure you have the following:
- Baselayers (long underwear top & bottom)
- Midlayer (turtleneck, long sleeved tee)
- Ski sweater or fleece
- Ski jacket and pants. Down filled is the warmest.

Remember that when you are stopping for lunch or hot cocoa the only layers people will see are your outerwear and your ski sweater, and perhaps your midlayer. So if you are being fashion-conscious, keep your focus on these to show off your personal style.
Ski bunnies rejoice for après ski!
How much you pack for your time off the mountain depends on what you are planning to do. Are you planning on sticking to your chalet drinking cocoa and hitting the sack? You might be able to get away with very few extra items.
But if you plan on partying at the base of the mountain you will need to bring outfits appropriate to your party venue. Similar to what you would wear at home, but layer up for outside. Bring a second coat that oozes fabulousness, plus footwear that can handle the snow. If you aren’t willing to sacrifice fashion for function, be prepared to have your footwear take a beating. Salt stains eat at suede and leather.
